Hi! I’m Kivi Leroux Miller.
Over the last 17 years, I’ve built a successful business working almost exclusively for nonprofit clients. It really is the sweet life: I get to help nonprofits change the world, while comfortably taking care of my family.
Many entrepreneurs try to market to nonprofits, and fail miserably. They just don’t get it. Nonprofits play a special role in our economy, and marketing to them is not the same as marketing to businesses. They operate differently (profit is not the primary motive) and success is defined in many different ways (again, profit is not the primary measure).
I get questions all the time from people who want to live the sweet life too. “How can I build a successful business working with nonprofit clients?”
I hear from people who work at nonprofits and who want to go out on their own as consultants, from corporate professionals seeking more meaning from their work, from college students ready to make their mark on the world, and from freelancers who already have a few nonprofits clients, but just can’t seem to make a profitable go at it.
And I’m not afraid to answer honestly, and to share what I’ve learned with you.
Why would I do such a thing? Because there are plenty of projects and clients to go around. I’m confident enough in my own business model, and I turn down work all the time. So why not share with you? That just means I get to help change the world even more!
